Delhi – The Mughal Capital of India

Delhi can be rightly called as the Mughal capital of India. Alai Darwaza

Alai Darwaza is located in the complex of Qutub Minar. It is one of the beautiful monuments. It was built by Alauddin Khilji. Alai Darwaza was the first building in India which was made by Islamic style of architecture. It is made up of red sandstone. There is white marble also with which it has been decorated. There are inscriptions of Nashk script on the walls of Alai Darwaza. One may also notice the beautiful arches and fringes that resemble the birds of the flower lotus.

Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar can also be seen in Delhi one day tour package sightseeing. Qutub Minar is very tall and has a spiral staircase. Its height is 73 meters. The right words for Qutub Minar could be an ancient skyscraper. This is one monument which is built by three different rulers. There are five balconies of different styles. The three different styles of architecture have been followed in making one building. Initially, it was made up of red sandstone, which three storeys are made. Where there are the other storeys, marble and sandstone have been used.

Humayun’s Tomb

Humayun’s Tomb is the Tomb of Humayun. It was made in red sandstone. Its shape is octagonal. It is full of arches. It is made in Persian architecture. It is one of the first Garden tombs of India. This is the Tomb which was made after 8 years of Humayun’s death. There are holes which are linked by the entrances and the channels in different directions. This monument has a very special place in Mughal architecture.

Red Fort

Red Fort was built by Shah Jahan. Red sandstone has been used in building it. Since calligraphy was the favorite of Shah Jahan, he has used the art of calligraphy to put some writings in it. There is also some flower artwork on the walls of this building. It is really a wonder how people in the old times managed to create search designs at such heights. This building is octagonal in shape. It took 10 years to get completed.

Safdarjung Tomb

This was a Tomb made for Safdarjung. If Humayun’s tomb was the first Garden Tomb, Safdarjung Tomb was the last Garden tomb in the City. Surprisingly it is very beautiful till now. It has very big walkways. Like Taj Mahal, the main is also made up of white marble. However, the entire building is made up of red sandstone. There are many canopies in the building. It is like a life Garden. There are bonds and fountains in the garden at Safdarjung Tomb.

Isa Khan’s Tomb

Isa Khan’s tomb is located along with Humayun’s tomb only. This is a sunken garden style of tomb. Varnished tiles, latest windows, and verandas have been used in beautifying this tomb. Isa Khan’s Tomb is also very beautiful to date. These tombs are the classic example of the brilliant architecture and spectacular designs the Mughal culture has used in building these monuments. The designs and architecture also show how much effort they have put in.

Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid such a big monument in Delhi that it can accommodate around 25000 devotees. There are numerous pigeons over here in the Varanda. This proves that in God’s house, everybody is welcomed. There is a great feeling of divinity over here. It was also built by Shah Jahan. There were 6000 workers employed for building Jama Masjid. It took almost 6 years to get a belt. It is very massive.

Zafar Mahal

Zafar Mahal was the last monument which was constructed by the Mughals. It is situated in the centre of Mehrauli. Mehrauli is to The Western side of Dargah of Khwaja Bakhtiyar Kaki. Zafar was the name of the son of Akbar. His full name was Bahadur Shah Zafar.
